There was a banyan tree named Vrihad on the bank of the lake of Raj Sarovar. That tree was huge. Many birds lived on this tree. A pair of crow also lived on that tree. A snake also lived in the crater of that tree. The snake used to eat the eggs of birds in the nest on the tree. Due to this all the birds living on the tree were upset. Everyone together decided to tackle this problem. The crow is the smartest of all the birds. Everyone together expressed their consensus and agreed to fight with that venomous snake under the leadership of the crow.
The cunning crow was also a knower of policy. Addressing all the birds, he said.—Friends, what is possible by means is not by might. (“Measurement hi yat sakyam na ti sakyam parakramai”). We all birds cannot conquer this terrible snake by doing mighty. We have to think of some solution.
Then after thinking for some time, the crow said that there is a Raj Sarovar near this banyan tree, in which the king of this state comes to bathe. Before taking a bath, the king takes a bath by keeping his clothes and ornaments on the banks of the lake. We have to take away the king's precious necklace from the king's servants.
According to his routine, the king came to the lake in the morning to take a bath. The king asked his soldiers to see his clothes and ornaments and went down to take a bath in the lake. The crow escaped from the king's soldiers, carrying their necklace in the beak. The soldiers started chasing the crow on foot and mounted. The crow dropped the necklace of the banyan tree in which the snake lived. The king's soldiers had seen the crow falling the necklace in crater of the tree. The soldiers quickly reached near crater. The soldiers came to crater and saw that there is a venomous snake there. They killed the snake and took out the king's necklace from the crater.
In this way, with the crow's cleverness, its invincible enemy snake was won by the birds living on the banyan tree.
