Once in a religious gathering, a crooked and evil person was ridiculing idol worship, "Foolish people worship idols. worship a stone. The stone is lifeless. Like any stone. We walk on stones. Just by making a face, I do not know what happens on that lifeless stone, those who worship?
The whole assembly was mixing yes in his yes.
* Swami Vivekananda * was also in that meeting. Didn't comment anything, just said at the end of the meeting that if you have a photo of your father, I will bring it to the meeting tomorrow.
The next day the man brought a large framed picture of his father. Finding the right time, Swamiji took a picture from him, placed it on the ground and said to the person, "Spit on this picture". I can ."
Swamiji said, 'Then touch it with your feet'. The man got furious "How can you have the audacity to say that I should insult my father's picture?"
“But it is a piece of lifeless paper”. Swamiji said. We trample all the pieces of paper under our feet.
But this is my father's picture. Not a piece of paper. * I see him only father. " said the man emphatically". I can't tolerate insulting them.
Laughing Swamiji said,
"We Hindus also see our God in idols, that's why we worship".
Entire assembly started looking towards Swamiji in awe.
What could be a simpler and better way to explain?
Idol worship is based on the principle of dualism.
Worship of Brahman is not easy, because he cannot be seen.
That was the second time. Now there is no such person who can worship the formless Brahman, who can meditate, therefore, keeping the corporeal form in front, he concentrates. In the senses, Brahma is seen in the form of many deities. When you are engrossed in devotion, why don't you do good?
In the absence of parents, when we bow down to them, we do our salutations by bringing their faces into mind. We do idol worship so that our feelings remain pure.
*"Like the spirit, Lord saw the idol three times"*
